Live wires, koras and ghosts, oh my

A few shows to note for tonight ...

It's time for another LiveWire Radio recording at the Alberta Rose Theatre ... Musical guests are Hillstomp and The Moondoggies ... 7:30 PM, $15 general/$30 reserved

Jimmy Mak's has The Kora Band's CD release show for their new recording CascadesBlue Cranes will open the evening - a double bill of two of the city's outstanding jazz outfits ... 8 PM, $10

Another fine album release show will be at the Secret Society Ballroom (116 NE Russell) tonight. It will celebrate the release of Ghosts’ Menagerie by Chris Robley & the Fear of Heights. The Alialujah Choir (w/ members of Weinland, M. Ward, and Norfolk & Western) will open, and Chris will have a lot of special guest musicians sitting in with the band .... 9:30pm, $5 /$10 includes CD

... and one more CD release show is over at Laurelthirst with Joe McMurrian who has a brand new solo recording, Get Inside This House He'll be playing solo and with his band, Woodbrain ... 9:30 PM $5

... and in town tonight at Dante's is the Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band ... three people who make a damn big sound ... 9:30 PM, $12

Looking for a no cover show? ... Check out Wendy and The Lost Boys at the Hawthorne Theater Pub (7:30 PM), the Tony Pacini Trio at Wilf's (8 PM), Laura Ivancie at Wine Unwind (8 PM), Pete Krebs at the Press Club (8:30 PM), or Billy D & The Hoodoos at the Rock Creek Tavern (9 PM).

So ... no excuses ... get thee out of the house!

And keep in mind Saturday's Gulfsongs Louisiana Music Celebration at the Alberta Rose Theatre (sorry, had to mention it again).
