Thursday live music picks

Good stuff  ... but before I get to those, this week's WW published the annual selections for Portland's best new bands .... check it out here.... and the top band (And And And) plus two others from the list will be at Mississippi Studios on Friday night ... more on that in the next post.

Thursday
Some of the usual and dependable - Lewi Longmire and band for happy hour at the Laurelthirst, The Don of Division Street at Biddy's, or The Portland Playboys at Duff's (all 6 pm) ... Mel Brown B3 Organ Band at Jimmy Mak's (8 pm, $5) ...

As it is Cinco de Mayo, there are lots of choices like the Bobby Torres Ensemble at Vie de Boheme (7 pm, $12 with salsa dance lesson, too!) ... and what I understand are probably the hottest latin bands in town at Andrea's Cha Cha Club (832 SE Grand Ave, 503-230-1166) - Dina and Bamba Y Su Pilon D'Azucar with La Descarga Cubana.

The Alan Jones Quintet is at The Blue Monk ... 8 pm, $5

Rollie Tussing & The Diminished 7 will be at the Laurelthirst ... 9:30 pm, $4

The Red Hot Blues Sisters are at Duff's ... 9 pm, $??

The Crystal Hotel grand opening celebration continues with Scott McCaughey and friends at Al's Den (tomorrow night too) and the last of the M.Ward shows at the Crystal Ballroom.

Britain's Eddie & The Hot Rods bring their pub rock sound to Dante's ... 9 pm, $12

... and KT Tunstall is in town tonight at the Aladdin ... 8 pm, $25

... should post more later about a very full weekend of great live music around town including Stephanie Schneiderman's CD release show, the annual Lebowski Fest, a tribute to Robert Johnson, and Steve Earle putting in an appearance at Music Millennium.
