First weekend of summer music picks

A few shows to get on your radar for tonight and the weekend ...

Friday
The annual Great Big Fais Do Do began last night and runs through Sunday with shows at multiple venues. Caleb Klauder organizes this every year and it's a ton of fun. As usual, Joel Savoy and Jess Lege visit from Louisiana and along with a host of Portland roots music friends, have a helluva good time!

The Decemberists and M. Ward play the first of a two-night run at the Edgefield Concerts ... looks like there are still tickets for both tonight and Saturday ... 7 PM, $50

Eilen Jewell is in town at the Alberta Rose. Excellent vocalist and songwriter ... don't miss her. "Crafting a unique style that mixes poetic ballads with swinging rockers, Eilen Jewell ranks among the best in the Americana genre today. As the reigning Queen of the Minor Key, Jewell leads a tight quartet who blend influences of surf-noir, early blues, rockabilly, and 1960s-era rock and roll."  Local songwriter McDougall opens ... 8 pm, $24

A very good evening at the Secret Society with Pete Krebs and his Portland Playboys for the happy hour show (6 PM, $6), and the James Low Irregulars, Amy Lavere, and the Coffis Brothers playing the later show ... 9 PM, $12

Saturday
The Clackamas County Lavender Festival happens Saturday and Sunday in Oregon City and on Saturday there's music with Little Sue (w/band @12:30 PM)) and Lewi Longmire and the Left Coast Roasters (@2:30 PM) ... $5 to park
The Indigo Girls and Lucy Wainwright Roche are at the Oregon Zoo Concerts ... 7 pm, $40-$100

Chervona hosts a Kupala/Summer Solstice Party (Kupala Night is a Russian celebration) at the Alberta Street Pub with guests The Strangetones ... 9 PM, $12  tickets
