Keeping dry tonight ...

Be prepared if you're headed to the Willie Nelson show at Edgefield tonight ... probably will be fairly moist ...

For a dryer musical evening you might want to head over to the Secret Society Ballroom for what will be a regular third Saturday happy hour with the James Low Western Front .... James' latest band lineup is sounding great and this room is made for listening (a little different happy hour experience from the typical bar venue) ... check it out ... 6 PM, no cover

My featured show of this evening is the kickoff show of the PDX Jazz Festival's monthly series at Tony Starlight's with Devin Phillips. Devin and his band will be performing John Coltrane's A Love Supreme in its entirety ....
Born and raised in New Orleans, Devin Phillips was an evacuee during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and became a part of the Portland Jazz Festival's "NOLA 2 PDX Project." Devin Phillips is now a permanent fixture on the local scene performing in a multitude of ensembles, including Portland Jazz Festival appearances with Branford Marsalis and Pharoah Sanders. For this special engagement, his homage to Coltrane recognizes his mentor's 84th birthday (September 23) and celebrates the birth of Phillips' newborn son. States Philips, "While we were at the hospital during the birthing process, I had A Love Supreme played repeatedly. John's music has and will always have a special place within my own music and family."
This should be a fantastic show ... you can read and hear more about it at Oregon Music News ...8 PM, $15

Couple of others to note:

If you stay at the Secret Society after James Low, you can catch the double bill of Paula Sinclair and the John Brown Project  .... 9:30 PM, $??

It's Halfway to St Patrick' Day all afternoon at the Kennedy School ... music starts at 1 PM.

.... and there's a Local Music Showcase at the Alberta Rose Theatre .... 9 PM, $8

And speaking of the Alberta Rose and Devin Phillips .... Devin will be one of the featured performers at next Saturday's Gulfsongs benefit show at the theater .... it's a Celebration of Louisiana Music ... keep the show on your radar ...
