Kudos to Portland Jazz Festival

Went to a couple of festival shows over the weekend - Rebecca Kilgore & Dave Frishberg at the PSC's Art Bar (actually a nice sounding space for a concert), Kate Davis at Wilf's, and the Pat Martino show at the Crystal Ballroom. All were wonderful. Based on these shows and feedback from others, the festival organizers should feel proud of a job well done. Given economic times and the plethora of choices, I hope the numbers were strong (were at the shows I attended) and it bodes well for the continuation of this great event which was almost canceled due to funding problems.

BTW, I was really impressed by the 18 year old Davis - a local singer and bass player with voice and chops that are hard to reconcile with her age . . . I was absolutely stunned. If you get a chance to see her, do so . . . . Here's a little bit of Kate . . . .
