Couple of things

Via Luciana Lopez's blog . . . the Portland Jazz Festival (which begins next weekend) is selling 2 for 1 tickets for some shows . . . info about the ticket deal here. BTW, the festival lineup is excellent and you should really try to catch a show.

If you're up for music tonight, check out The Gourds at the Doug Fir. This very fine Austin band combines diverse influences - think of a music axis that runs from the Southwest through Texas and on to New Orleans and you'll get the idea. 9 PM, $15

And, speaking of Austin, I'll be headed there on Friday for a few days. Will be helping Marcia Ball celebrate her 60th birthday, which she'll do in fine fashion with three days of shows at Antone's. Big fun in Texas and I feel really lucky to be able to attend. Might blog about it, might not . . . we'll see. I'll try to get out weekend recommendations before I leave.

One more . . . get your tickets for Dave Alvin with special guest Steve Berlin (of Los Lobos) at the "pre-opening" show at Mississippi Studios on Saturday night. This is going to be a great performance space - you should be part of the very first show. 9 PM, $20 in advance
