Music for the weekend ...

I know it's been a while, but here's some picks for this weekend. My next will have some great shows for the Thanksgiving weekend. But let's start with this Friday and Saturday before looking too far ahead.

Friday
Happy hour? Check out Annachristie Sapphire and Veronica Bianqui at the Alberta Street Pub (6 pm) or head to The Sportin' Lifers monthly swing happy hour at the Secret Society ... 6 pm, $6

Muddy Award winner Steve Kerin engages in a bit of keyboard wizardry at Vino Veritas (Montivilla) ... 7 pm, no cover

For you Westsiders, Terry Robb is at the Skyline Tavern (7 pm, no cover) and Miller & Sasser are at the Grand Lodge (7 pm, no cover)

At the Alberta Rose it's the Albina Soul Review ... the World Arts Foundation hosts a one-night soul revue spotlighting some of Portland's unsung heroes of 1970s Albina soul music, including Shirley Nanette, Gregg Smith, and the Legendary Beyons. It's a well deserved sellout, but you can always try to pick up a ticket outside ... 8 pm.

At the Aladdin it's Seattle's Polyrhythmics ... 8 pm, $20

At The Old Church, it's Savila (WW's band of the year) and San Cha ... 8 pm, $14

Redray Frazier is at the Secret Society ... 9 pm, $10

Pretty Gritty and Karyn Ann are at the Laurelthirst ... 9 pm, $7

Federale celebrates the 10th anniversary and re-release of their first album at the Doug Fir ... 9 pm, $14

Saturday
Early? There's always swing at the Secret Society ... tonight it's Gypsy jazz with James Mason & the Gypsy Hicks (6 pm, $6) ... and stay for more dancing with Melao De Cuba Salsa Orchestra at 8:30 ($10).

It's Redray Frazier's monthly happy hour show at the Laurelthirst ... 6 pm,  no cover

Dancin' shoes needed for these two ... Catfish Lou's hosts Kris Deelane & the Hurt (9 pm, $10) and Soul Vaccination is at the Trails End (8:30 pm, $15)

Louis Pain and LaRhonda Steele are at Arrivederci ... 8 pm, no cover

First show of a two night sold out run for Blitzen Trapper at the Doug Fir ... 9 pm, $25

It's honky-tonk and Seattle rock at Mississippi Studios with Jenny Don't & the Spurs and Cold Soda ... 9 pm, $12

And it's the 3rd annual Gram Jam at the Laurelthirst - celebrating the music of Gram Parsons. It's a benefit for the Jeremy Wilson Foundation ... 9 pm, $10-$25 suggested donation.

Speaking of benefits, there's a very special one going on Saturday - An Evening of Esperanza: Building Hope is a celebration of the resilience and strength of our region's community to benefit affordable housing developer Bienestar. Food will be served, wine and beer will be poured, and Esperanza Spalding will perform, as will Denzel Mendoza Trio and Integrantes Del Coro de la Iglesia de San Mateo ... 6 pm ... tickets are $100 - $250.

OK ... Next Waltz, Tony Furtado, Storm Large, Casey Neill, and more coming next weekend ... which are you thankful for? Support your local musicians and get out to some live music!
