August weekend music picks

August? Already? Lots going on as we move through summer!

First weekend of August? Of course, it's Pickathon! There's still weekend and single day tickets available for this always exciting multi-genre festival experience. And the weather is going to be perfect. Check out their website for a video feed of live and recorded performances.

Also on the festival schedule is the Vanport Jazz Festival on Saturday and The Tualatin Crawfish Festival on Friday and Saturday. And in Portland street festivals, on Saturday it's the Fremont Festival!

Friday
Happy hour? How about The Buzz Holland Five with Paula Sinclair at the Starday (6 pm, no cover) or the Jumptown Aces at the Secret Society (6 pm, $6)

Louisiana slide guitar master and songwriter Sonny Landreth will be at the Aladdin ... 8 pm, $30

The tasty jazz guitar and vocals of Tuck & Patti will be at the Alberta Rose. Special guest Adlai Alexander opens ... 8 pm, $30

New Orleans brass bands seem to want to visit the northwest in the summer. Go figure! First it was the Dirty Dozen, tonight it's Rebirth at the Star Theater (9 pm, $30), and Monday night it's Big Sam's Funky Nation at Mississippi Studios (8 pm, $18)

Saeeda Wright & The Wright Way are at the Jack London Revue ... 9 pm, $15

Saturday
Music through the day at the Rock Creek Hoedown at the Rock Creek Tavern.

For happy hour, catch The Resolectrics at the Laurelthirst (no cover), The Goods at the Alberta Street Pub (no cover), or the Libertine Belles at the Secret Society ($6) ... all at 6 pm.

Celebrated North Carolina band, Delta Rae, is at the Alberta Rose ... 8 pm, $28

Lauren Sheehan and Friends will be at the Muddy Rudder in Sellwood ... 8 pm, no cover

At the Jack London, it's Seattle flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny leading an all-star quintet featuring visiting artists and vocalist Holly Pyle in an evening of Jazz From The Silver Screen. Matheny was voted "NW Instrumentalist of the Year" in this year's Seattle Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Awards ... 9 pm, $10

Sunday
Check out vocalist Sara Niemietz and Emmy-award winning composer, Snuffy Walden at the White Eagle. This will be a treat ... 7 pm, $10

I'm sure there's more, but here ya go!
