Music for the St. Pat's weekend

Sláinte! I'll start with a simple Irish toast to note the weekend. If you're looking for alternatives to drinking copious amounts of beer (let's all get shitfaced drunk - how Irish of us! Really? It's 2018 and we should continue to promote obnoxious and offensive stereotypes!), there are some great music choices for the weekend.

So if you're into the St. Pat's celebrating ... McMenamin's has weekend long events with all kinds of music and family-friendly activities at Edgefield and other venues in Oregon and Washington.

Friday
I'll be at tonight's sold out John Hiatt & the Goners show at Revolution Hall. There's probably some resale tickets available online or if you patiently wait outside the venue ... 8 pm

James Low is doing a happy hour at the Laurelthirst (6 pm) ... which will be followed by Fernando's birthday show (9 pm) ... that is a heck of a night at the 'Thirst. And don't forget their GoFundMe page to help the LT owners purchase the building to ensure the continuation of one of the oldest and best local venues in the city! They are very close to their goal ... let's help them reach it!

For the swing dancing crowd, The Sportin' Lifers do their monthly happy hour show at the Secret Society ... 6 pm, $6

The Hot Club of Hawthorne is at SouthFork ... 7 pm

The Junebugs are at the Muddy Rudder ... 8 pm, no cover (they'll also be at the Alberta St Pub at 3 pm on Saturday)

The Bayou Boyz with special guest Lloyd Jones are at the Blue Diamond ... 9 pm

The Bobby Torres Trio is at Bluehour ... 9 pm

Tezeta Band is at the Jack London Review ... 9 pm, $15

Saturday
It's a quick turnaround at the Laurelthirst for James Low ... he'll be doing an all-ages show with Paul Brainard at noon. No cover.

There are two outstanding shows at the Alberta Rose, starting with the 5th Annual Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival. This years lineup consists of some of the worlds top slack key artists including Bobby Moderow, Kamuela Kahoano, Dwight Kanae, Paul Togioka, and Bill Keale ... 1 pm, $25-$40

Then there's world-renowned fiddler Kevin Burke's special St. Patrick's Day show - fiddle, songs, stories of the west coast of Ireland ... 8 pm, $25/30

Speaking of fiddlers, James Mason & The Djangophiles are at The Secret Society (6 pm, $6) ... and it will be followed by a St. Pat's salsa dance with the Melao de Cuba Salsa Orchestra (8:30 pm, $10)

A fine weekend of music continues at the Laurelthirst with Kris Deelane and the Hurt from 7 - 10 pm, no cover, and a ton of fun.

Corkscrew Wine Bar has Adlai Alexander and Hershel Yatovitz (guitarist from Chris Isaak's band) ... 8 pm, no cover

Bluehour hosts King Louis & Renato Caranto ... 9 pm

Trio Subtonic w/Dan Balmer is at the Jack London Review ... 9 pm, $12

The Garcia Birthday Band is at the Goodfoot ... 10 pm, $10

Enough choices? And there's always more! See ya out and about!
