Do not beware these Ides of March music picks ...

Mid-March. Already? Where have I been? OK, to get back to some live music recommendations, here's some quick picks for the weekend ...

Friday
Early music? Try Ron Rogers & the Wailing Wind at the Hawthorne Theater Lounge (6 pm, no cover) or Pete Krebs and His Portland Playboys at the Secret Society (6 pm, $5) ... if you're there, why not stay for the evening show with Redray Frazier ... 9 pm, $8

A really fine musician from Los Angeles recently moved to Portland and is slowly making his way into the Portland scene. Mark Shark is a multi-instrumentalist (virtually anything with strings) and  songwriter, and you can catch him tonight at the Muddy Rudder ... 8 pm, no cover

At Tabor Space it's electric cellist Gideon Freudmann ... time for some cellobop ... 7 pm, $10-15

And a resurgent Fernando (with a great band) is at the White Eagle ... 9 pm, $8

Saturday
Check out Annalisa Tornfelt's Album Release with The Sound Outside and special guest Michael Hurley at the Alberta Rose. Annalisa is a Portland fiddler and vocalist and key member of Black Prairie ... 8 pm, $15

Lauren Sheehan is also doing a CD release party for her latest, Tillamook Burn, at the Muddy Rudder ... 8 pm, no cover

Sounds of Brazil: Dia do Choro PDX 2015 is a celebration of Brazilian choro music at the Old Church ... 7 pm, $18

Live Wire Radio records another eclectic program at Revolutions Hall ... 7:30 pm, $25

Sunday
At the Alberta Rose tonight are three amazing and acclaimed songwriter/performers doing an old-fashioned song-swap in the round ... taking their turns singing their songs and telling stories - Ruthie Foster, Paul Thorn, and Joe Ely. Joe and Ruthie represent the opposite sides of Texas - the wide open dusty cowboy west (Joe is from Lubbock) and the more bluesy Gulf coast east. Paul is the kid from Tupelo, Mississippi who shares gospel and blues influences with Ruthie. Can't say enough about this trio ... should be a very special night of "Southern Troubadours" ... 8 pm, $40

OK ... get out to some live music!
