Post-turkey day live music picks

Hope you all had a pleasant Thanksgiving ... now here's the no-turkey list of shows you might want to check out over the next couple days.

There are a few shows that now seem to have become a Thanksgiving weekend tradition. Now in it's fourth year at the Alberta Rose, The Next Waltz pays tribute to The Band by recreating their final show that was filmed by Martin Scorsese and immortalized as The Last Waltz. Some of the cream of Portland's music community lovingly perform the tunes and raise money for the Jeremy Wilson Foundation ... Jeff Rosenberg gets to do mean impersonation of Van Morrison, Ural Thomas will steal the show, and everyone will leave warm and satisfied ... Friday and Saturday, 8 pm, $28 ... though the show is sold out.

Another sold out Friday/Saturday show is Storm Large's Holiday Ordeal at the Aladdin ... 8 pm, $35/50

Speaking of sold out shows, another is tonight's Ryan Bingham at the Star Theater ... 9 pm, $20

For sold out shows you can try your luck and show up at the door and maybe score someone's extra ticket 'cause their friend, spouse, parent, kid couldn't make it. Or pick something else ... there more really fine shows this weekend.

For instance, Curtis Salgado is staying home this holiday weekend and checks into Jimmy Mak's for a bluesy, soulful Friday and Saturday ... 8 pm, $25 reserved / $20 general

Another show becoming a TG weekend tradition is the fabulous Tony Furtado's at Mississippi Studios on Saturday. Also in it's fourth year, the show is an opportunity for Tony to play at home joined not only by his band, but some very special friends ... like opener Casey Neill ... 8 pm, $18
