Two excellent shows tonight and tomorrow at the Alberta Rose

Just a quick post to note two great nights at the Alberta Rose Theatre. Tonight it's an Evening With Suzy Bogguss. Suzy was truly a superstar in country music in the 90s, but she's grown past the particular restrictions of that genre and back to her roots in acoustic folk and Americana. She's an outstanding vocalist and touring to support her latest CD, Lucky - a set of Merle Haggard tunes, with a little re-working from a woman's perspective ... 7:30 pm, $28

BeauSoleil
Friday night brings the long-time Cajun favorites and multiple award-winning, BeauSoleil. Led by the fiddle virtuoso Michael Doucet, this band is probably the most respected Cajun band in the world. Their sound isn't confined to traditional Cajun, but incorporates a distinctive mix of New Orleans jazz, blues rock, folk, swamp pop, Zydeco, country, bluegrass, and world music. It's a sound that continues to be vital and compelling ... and a joy. And, there'll be room for dancing, as it is kinda impossible to not want to move ... 8 pm, $25

In other music tonight, the Alan Hager/Dave Fleschner Duo is at the Duff's (9 pm, $5), The Djangophiles are at Vie d'Boheme (8 pm, $5), and the Ben Rice B3 Trio is at The Lodge (8 pm, 6605 SE Powell)

Oh ... and, of course, the Portland Jazz Festival gets underway today (thru March 2nd)... check out the schedule of special shows all over town! Here's Oregon Music News' guide to what you don't want to miss.
