Jon Dee Graham ... Monday at Mississippi Studios

You probably get tired of hearing me describe someone as "one of my very favorite artists" ... but I need to tell you one of my very favorite artists is going to be in town next week and you have a great opportunity to catch him Monday night at Mississippi Studios.

Austin's Jon Dee Graham has been part of a legendary rock band that few ever got a chance to hear (the True Believers, with Alejandro Escovedo ... though in the past year they've reformed and played some dates and recorded an EP, which was long-awaited and is way cool!), was a long-time member of The Resentments with fellow Austin luminaries Stephen Bruton, Jud Newcomb, and Bruce Hughes (their weekly Sunday night gigs at the Saxon Pub were akin to the musical soul salvation of the Freak Mountain Ramblers at the Laurelthirst), and has had a rewarding 25 year solo career.

Jon Dee is one of my favorite writers (and a favorite of many songwriters) and has a gritty world-weary delivery that conversely conveys hope from those darker corners of our existence. And he is one helluva genuine human being. We're lucky if he gets up here once a year, so come out Monday night. ... 8 pm, $10

Might have some long overdue recommendations coming at ya for the weekend ... stay tuned!
