Just heard that Levon Helm is in the final stages of his battle with cancer....lord that man could drum!! And that infectious smile....this makes me very sad.
Been awhile since I've posted because Dave scared me with his skill with pretty pictures and stuff...my computer is slowly dying and I have been swamped with work, but sneaking away to see Blitzen Trapper at Doug Fir tonight and buy my tick to see Ramona Falls there in May. And most important, X (the seminal punk rock band from LA, for those too young to remember) May 11, Crystal Ballroom!!!!!
This blog will cover my ramblings about upcoming live music in and around Portland and recommendations for getting out to clubs and concerts . . . . and whatever else I feel like blathering about.

Jim's Music Notes for Friday, April 6, 2012 submitted by guest blogger, Dave Johnson
Hey, it's me again with a few ideas for this weekend. First, I'd like to like to re-iterate the post Jim mentioned at the beginning of the week:
Davis Rogan will hold court at Al's Den at the Crystal Hotel Friday and Saturday at 7:00pm. Davis Rogan is a force to be reckoned with, is a contributor to the HBO television series Treme, and is an exceptional showman and entertainer.

Friday night at Halibut's on NE Alberta Street, you'll The Boogie Cat himself, Norman Sylvester http://youtu.be/0mA7uLa3_EE
http://youtu.be/06WM8oLH87M
At the Aladdin Theatre on Friday, you can catch Uncle Kracker's Hometown Tour who is touring in support of his most recent musical offering: Happy Hour. Uncle Kracker has penned a more positive spin on this disc. So come prepared for something a little different from what you're accustomed to at this performance. Give it a go!
Speaking of that special time of day we've come to know as Happy Hour, Tonight at The LaurelThirst. You can catch up with your old friend James Low. Show starts at 6:00pm. Allow me to suggest you get there a bit earlier 'cause the place fills up fast.

Davis Rogan all week at Al's Den
Small dispatch from New Orleans ... the always entertaining Davis Rogan will be appearing all week in Portland at Al's Den in the Crystal Hotel. You should check out Davis ... he's quite the character and very good ... he's even the basis for one of the main characters in HBO's Treme (along with being an adviser to the show ... and occasional actor) ... Starts tonight and runs through Saturday. A number of Portland musicians, including Steve Kerin, will be joining him throughout the week.
Tell him I said hey ...
