Post Up for Friday, March 16, 2012

Hey everybody, allow me to introduce myself, my name is Dave Johnson and I host a blues radio show on KMHD 89.1fm on the last Friday of the month. I am honored and delighted to have been invited by Jim Friscia, in his absence, to post in this music blog regarding the local Portland music scene. If you haven't heard by now, let me break it to you gently, Jim has accepted a new job in New Orleans, Louisiana as the bouncer at Tipitina's Uptown. He'll be checking in periodically so, everyone - please try to look busy.

I have been a fan of Jim's blog for years. I can't tell you how many times this blog has turned me on to a fresh new voice or a old favorite coming to town. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my musical opinions with you.

As you're driving from show to show this Friday evening allow me to invite you to listen to Dr. Jane Manning's radio show The Lowdown on 89.1 fm KMHD from 8:00pm to 10:00pm - Then it's Tom Addis and The Blues Palace from 10:00pm to 1:00am. They'll keep you company on those long rainy drives to and from the show.

Shows on the radar for Friday, March 16, 2012

At The Secret Society Ballroom Happy Hour show, you'll find....

Lincoln's Beard
March 16, 2012
6:00 pm | All ages | Free at the door

Lincoln’s Beard is a four piece, non-traditional folk band from Vancouver, Washington. Here is a quote from the band I thought was worthy of repeating here: 'The more we played, the more it became apparent that we were less interested in "front porch jams" and more into setting the porch on fire.'

If you go to the show, for your safety, be certain to know where the fire exits are located.

Next up,

Jim Friscia just can't help himself, he's a dedicated blogger and a local music fan and he already mentioned this next show in a post he put up here on Wednesday - all the way from New Orleans - no less. I felt it important to remind you.

Tonight at The Muddy Rudder you're invited to check out Mike Brosnan - No, No, No - he's no relation to the actor who played James Bond in  For Your Eyes Only. Mike Brosnan is an expatriate New Zealander currently based in Europe, He is a true craftsman of song, a powerful and emotive singer, and a superb guitarist. A highly accomplished yet understated guitarist, Brosnan plays lines that perfectly support his powerful baritone. And his slide guitar work is also considered a highlight, with many positive comparisons drawn with Ry Cooder’s best work.

For more on Mike check out his website at  http://www.mikebrosnan.com/

At Halibut's on NE Alberta Street from 8:00pm to 11:00pm it's Vyasa Dodson Band.

I'll close with a show you will kick yourself for missing at The Aladdin Theatre
