Resurfacing ... with a few picks for tonight

Emerging from my self-imposed hiatus from regular posting  ... it might be a slow return into the swing of things, so don't get too excited (not that anyone could get particularly excited by my blather) ...

So tonight there's the aforementioned John Doe & Jill Sobule show at the Alberta Rose Theatre.  It's where I'm planning to be later (as is my occasional co-blogger, Marychris) ... so I hope to see you there ... 8 pm, $25

Other fine choices include:
Lewi Longmire in his regular Laurelthirst happy hour slot ... 6 pm, no cover

Thad Beckman at the Muddy Rudder ... Always nice to be able to catch Thad home in Portland, as he spends a good deal of time now traveling the country (and world) as indispensable guitar player with Tom Russell ... 8 pm, no cover

Steve Kerin takes your requests for tunes on the Chapel Pub organ ... with a head full of songs and a bagful of songbooks, he'll probably play anything you can come up with ... alway fun ... 8 pm, no cover

Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, a Bay Area band that's been plying the soul/rock/R&B groove (East Bay Grease!) since their debut in 1969, are in town for a special show at Jimmy Mak's ... 8 pm, $25

Dig some adventurous post-pop jazz of the Alan Jones Quintet at the Blue Monk ... 8 pm, $5

And, don't loose your head over this one, but Swing Papillion helps Vie de Boheme Winery celebrate Bastille Day ... 8 pm, $5

... oh, and if you can afford it, Eddie Vedder is in town tonight at the Schnitz.  This is the penultimate show (tomorrow' finale is in Seattle) of a month-long tour to support his new CD, Ukulele Songs ... his special guest on the tour is Swell Season's and The Frame's Glen Hansard ... $75 plus ridiculous ticket fees at Ticketmaster

Maybe more tomorrow for the weekend ... we'll see ...
