End of July picks ... a few for tonight

Wow, July almost over, but we're in the swing of summer music. Not as many big events as last weekend, but just a lot of typically good midsummer choices ...

Oh, it's time for the beer fests of beer fests ... the Portland Brewers Festival in Waterfront Park starts today.  Here's the entertainment schedule  ...

A couple of quick picks for tonight ...

Besides the usual Thursday suspects, The Dimes are at the Sundown at Ecotrust music series at the Ecotrust Building ... 5:30 pm, free

The Freak Mountain Ramblers are at the Kennedy School ... 7 pm, free

PDX Jazz @ the Mission Theater presents The Devin Phillips Quartet: Impressions of John Coltrane ... a celebration of the music of the great saxophonist and jazz innovator ... 8 pm, $15

More on the weekend later or tomorrow .... but a quick heads up for Friday with an In The House house party with Mark Hummel,  and Atomic Gumbo and the New Iberians at Duff's.  For Saturday, a band I've been waiting years to have back here in Portland, Blackie & The Rodeo Kings will be at the Alberta Rose.
