Friday night lights . . . up

Hey all . . . a few quick picks for tonight . . .

At the top of my list is Lloyd Jones at Duff's Garage. Bluesy, soulful, funky and just plain fun . . . best way to get my b-day weekend rolling . . . come out and join me. . . 9 pm, $8

The Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival kicks off at 4 pm (runs through Sunday night) with fine lineup of locals and headline acts that include War, Alan Toussaint, Judy Collins, Arturo Sandoval and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band . . . $20/day or $50/3-day pass

Susan Tedeschi and JJ Grey & Mofro are a solid double-bill at the Oregon Zoo. . . . 7 pm, $22

Rollie Tussing will be at the Mock Crest Tavern . . . 9 pm, $??

Might want to duck the flying instruments at the White Eagle when The Piano Throwers' take the stage . . . . 9:30 pm, $5

Looking for a happy hour show? Check out Michael Dean Damron & Thee Loyal Bastards at the Laurelthirst . . . 6 pm, free

Oh . . . and if you're looking for a hoot of an event tomorrow afternoon (that's not music) . . . it's the 2009 PDX Adult Soapbox Derby at Mt. Tabor Park from 10 am - 4 pm.
